Construction Methods

The construction stages for carousel animal bodies begin with premium grade kiln-dried basswood, carefully assembled using traditional hollow body (known as "coffin") construction.  This method makes the body much stronger than a solid body.  It allows for the expansion and contraction of the wood and prevents significant cracking or warping.  It also reduces the weight of the animal by 25-30%.  On a working carousel, that can make a big difference in weight, and wear on moving parts.

As a company we have built more wooden bodies in more different styles than anyone in modern times.  We have learned from the restorations we have done which body building techniques have held up to the decades of abuse they have taken.  Our construction methods are the strongest and finest that money can buy.

The traditional construction methods of the old masters have held up well for over 100 years of riding. love, wear, and abuse.  These are the methods we use today.
