Sizes for Carousel Figures

Sizing carousel animals is a tricky proposition.  Not only do they vary in size from row to row on the carousel, but also between machines and between manufacturers . We have measured many carousel animals and feel our standard sizes are a good average among the many variables.  We often get calls from customers saying in effect .. "but I want a BIG carousel horse, and yours are only four feet long".  Rest assured, our large kits are BIG animals.  Since head and tail position, type of mane, neck extension, and positioning of legs all affect the overall size of the finished animal, we measure only the body from breast to rump and do not include head and neck, or tail. 

The finished animal will be 20% to 30% longer overall, depending on the pose.  Our large (48 inch body) horses will normally stand between five and six feet tall.  All measurements are approximate and will vary slightly from horse to horse.  Our standard sizes are designed to simplify construction and carving.  If you want something special for your situation see our custom page.

One third

One third is not a real carousel animal, but a miniature, suitable for limited display space.  It has a 20" body, and is approximately 24" overall.  Not suitable for riding, except by dolls.  Note:  Since one-third size animals are only about five inches thick, they are solid body construction.

Baby

Baby is the smallest real carousel animal.  They were occasionally found on portable, or kiddie machines.  They are rideable by children, with a 27" body, approximately 33" overall.

Small

Small is an inside row horse from a portable or park machine with a 36" body, approximately 45" overall.

Medium

Medium is an outside horse from a portable or second row horse from a park machine.  Its dimensions are a 43" body, approximately 52" overall.

Large

Large equates with an outside row horse, stander or jumper, from a park machine with a 48" body, approximately 60" overall. This is our largest standard size horse.

Rocker

The rocker is a specialty size and is only offered for our rocking horse kits.  With a 32" body, approximately 42" overall, this is an ideal size for the three-to-ten year old.
